In support of nursing Students at Cape Breton University
Ethel F. (Grant) Eagles, a passionate Cape Bretoner, is always eager to help those in need. That’s why she created a scholarship to help nursing students at Cape Breton University.
Born and raised in Dominion, Ethel led the province in her RN exams when she graduated from Glace Bay General Hospital as a registered nurse in 1946. She immediately went to work in the local area and three years later became an industrial nurse at the Sydney steel plant. Ethel loved working in an industrial setting because it was fast-paced and dynamic, “I loved to analyze situations and figure out the best treatment plans.” In 1952, she married her best friend and the love of her life, Donald Lee Eagles. They were married for over 56 years and together raised four children – Robert, Munroe, Annalee, and Lorna.
To be eligible for this award, applicants must be enrolled full-time in the Cape Breton University Nursing Program. Applicants will be adjudicated on their financial need and academic standing.
The deadline for applications is April 30.
This scholarship is granted annually and is renewable two times for a total of three academic years provided the recipient maintains the minimal level of academic standing required to continue in the program. The donor reserves the right to award scholarships on a more or less frequent basis or to modify the amount of the award, as income levels and CFNS permit.
